Nord Kivu: one dead and one injured in an electrocution incident in Beni

Beni, June 25th, 2026 (CPA). – One person died and another injured by electrocution on Thursday in the Butsili neighbourhood, following the collapse of a power line pylon in the town of Beni, in Nord-Kivu (eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo), CPA has learnt from administrative sources.  “We have been alerted by our staff to a fatal accident. A power pole belonging to Energie du Congo (Enk) fell onto a motorbike taxi driver; his wife, a passenger known as Mbambu Kaghoma – a vendor at the small market in Kanzuli, has died at the scene, whilst the driver seriously injured,” has said Benjamin Kitsa, head of the Butsili neighbourhood. He has explained that the pole was in a state of serious disrepair, unbeknown to the company (Enk), adding that the body had been taken to the mortuary and the injured man to the general referral hospital for appropriate treatment. Pockets of tension that flared up spontaneously have been quickly quelled thanks to the mediation of the neighbourhood chief and his colleagues, the local leaders, who have promised to monitor the situation very closely. Initial investigations have been launched by the police. The funeral of the victim, who was from the neighbouring neighbourhood of Ngongolio, is scheduled for Saturday, according to family sources.ACP/
