Opposition Leader Martin Fayulu Welcomes the Initiative to Create a “Truth and Reconciliation” Commission

Kinshasa, February 18th, 2026 (CPA) – The initiative to establish a “Truth and Reconciliation” commission as a precursor to an inclusive national dialogue in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was proposed Wednesday by the head of a religious organization during a meeting with the president of the opposition political platform “Lamuka.”

“We came to meet President Martin Fayulu and his team to propose the initiative of setting up a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which we developed within our religious organization, CIC,” said Archbishop Dodo Kamba, President of the Congolese Interreligious Council (CIC). Speaking to the press, Archbishop Dodo Kamba said that President Fayulu welcomed the CIC’s initiative and shared “certain elements to be taken into account” in this project. “We were greatly enriched by his ideas and especially by his patriotic spirit. This is his way of working in this country, and that is what we take away. He encouraged us at the same time, and we left him some elements that he will study and formalize,” he added. Regarding incidents that occurred last Monday at the headquarters of ECiDé, Martin Fayulu’s political party, Archbishop Dodo Kamba deplored the inappropriate acts by some Congolese citizens and called for tolerance in understanding events. “I believe it will be resolved. To prevent such events from happening again, we truly hope to walk in harmony and speak as brothers, especially during this period when our country is being targeted and experiences various injustices from surrounding actors,” he urged, noting that Lamuka’s contribution remains essential for peace in the country. This tour, already conducted with the Permanent Secretary of the Sacred Union of the Nation, André Mbata, then continued with Jean-Marc Kabund, President of the Alliance for Change (A.Ch), and opposition member Delly Sesanga, aims to raise awareness among party leaderships and other stakeholders about the necessity of establishing a “Truth and Reconciliation” commission as a prerequisite for national dialogue in the DRC. For Archbishop Dodo Kamba, the goal is to create a framework for transitional justice to pave the way before any further political discussions.
