Kinshasa, October 13th, 2026 (CPA). – The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Judith Suminwa, has chaired the second meeting of the DRC-US Task Force on Monday in Kinshasa, with a view to accelerat the implementation of the commitments under the strategic partnership between the two countries, according to a press release seen by the CPA on Tuesday.“Discussions have focused in particular on the Grand Inga project, the development of the Lobito Corridor, the strategic assets proposed to the US side, the selection of priority projects, US technical assistance and the work of the Joint Steering Committee,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated in the press release. Following the meeting, according to the statement, Government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya emphasized the need to coordinate the efforts of the various ministries in order to make progress on priority issues. “With a view to upcoming deadlines, the relevant members of the Government were to take stock, in a cross-departmental manner, of all these issues,” he has said. The minister has also emphasized the need to take each issue forward in line with its stage of development, referring in particular to the Grand Inga project, which still requires technical discussions with US partners.
“On Inga, there will in fact be another meeting in the near future, notably with our American partners, to see to what extent we can further implement what had already been agreed – firstly following the signing of the strategic partnership agreement, but also following all the subsequent meetings between the two parties (…) These are immense projects. The first step is to identify them, reach agreement and then begin to carry out the necessary procedures,” Mr Muyaya has explained.
Expected economic benefits
Through the Task Force, according to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Suminwa Government thus intends to accelerate the transition from commitments to their implementation, paying particular attention to projects likely to develop infrastructure, increase energy capacity, strengthen mining value chains and improve public revenue. The next meeting of the joint steering committee will mark a further stage in this process. According to Patrick Muyaya, it should, in particular, provide an opportunity to clarify certain options and assess the progress made in implementing the commitments made by the two Heads of State. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for the Economy, Daniel Mukoko; the Minister of State in charge of Foreign Affairs, Thérèse Kayikwamba; the Minister in charge of Finance, Doudou Fwamba; the Minister in charge of Water Resources and Electricity, Aime Sakombi; the Minister in charge of Land Affairs, O’Neige Nsele, and the Minister for Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya. Signed on December 4th, 2025, DRC–US strategic partnership opens up prospects for cooperation in the fields of investment, value chains linked to strategic minerals, infrastructure and energy. The challenge for DRC is to translate this bilateral framework into concrete achievements that can strengthen its productive capacities, improve its infrastructure, create jobs and increase the value derived from its natural resources.
