Kinshasa, October 30th, 2025 (CPA).– Sweden has declared its readiness to support the reunification of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) through Resolution 1325, the United Nations Security Council’s ‘Women, Peace and Security’ agenda, during a solidarity meeting on Thursday in Kinshasa between women in power and women from civil society.
« For Sweden, we must all be called upon to fulfil the four main points of Resolution 1325, namely: participation, protection, prevention, and the recovery and reintegration of women and girls in conflict zones. In this case, Sweden supports the reunification of the DRC, » said Joakim Vaverka, Sweden’s ambassador to the DRC. The Prime Minister to the right of the ambassadors of Sweden and Great Britain singing the women’s anthem ‘This meeting of solidarity between women in power and women from civil society strengthens bonds of solidarity while promoting firm dialogue to ensure lasting peace in the country.
This initiative is a valuable barometer for measuring the level of gender integration in the state apparatus, in terms of ethics and administration,’ he added. Ambassador Vaverka said that Sweden has implemented a gender-sensitive strategy programme designed to strengthen responsible capacities within the government and international organisations such as the European Union and the UN. ‘This program has enabled us to play so many roles in promoting peace, security, development and gender equality.
Sweden supports several programs in this area, funding several partners alongside the government for gender mainstreaming for more than a decade,’ he said. ‘Gender stereotypes, as well as the critical crime and injustice suffered by women and girls for more than three decades, show that there are specific needs for women, including strong public policies to improve transparency, regularity and resources on commitments to human rights and equality laws,’ he added. He called on women to build a more just and equitable society. ‘Together, we are continuing our efforts to build a more just, pleasant and equitable society through inclusive governance and, above all, the participation of women in peace building,’ said the Swedish diplomat, before paying a well-deserved tribute to His Excellency Félix-Antoine-Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Republic, Head of State and Champion of Positive Masculinity, who has made gender promotion a priority.
