Mbuji-Mayi, August 17th, 2025 (CPA). – The traffic police surveillance units have been forced to carry out motorised patrols to combat traffic accidents on newly rehabilitated roads in Mbuji-Mayi, the chief town of Kasai-Oriental, in the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo, CPA has learned on Saturday from police sources. « The PCR Kasaï-Oriental is taking the following measures to combat the resurgence of traffic accidents on the newly rehabilitated roads in Mbuji-Mayi: the surveillance units are forced to carry out motorised patrols and rounds on the avenues concerned. The large vehicles that do not comply with speed limits will be impounded,‘ has declared Felix Mukuna Kayemba, deputy senior commissioner and PCR group commander for Kasai-Oriental. And to add: ’the motorcycles which will park on the curves or in bad parking will be impounded. As a preventive measure, the PCR calls for compliance with five safety rules, namely: wearing a protective helmet, using seat belts, complying with speed limits, not consuming alcohol while driving, and not talking on the phone while driving. » The PCR commander has highlighted that his message comes at a time when there have been frequent accidents in the city of Mbuji-Mayi and within the province. ‘For some time now, especially since the end of July, there has been a high rate of road crime, or what we call accidents, on all major roads, where large vehicles collide with motorcycles.’ ‘It is important to note that the main cause of all these accidents remains the failure to comply with traffic regulations or codes of conduct, including the passing, the crossing, the stopping, the parking, the driving under the influence of alcohol, and the failure to observe road signs,’ he has emphasised.
