Kinshasa, November 19th, 2025 (CPA) – The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, received in audience by President Tshisekedi, urged the various parties involved in the security crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to work collectively for peace and lasting stability, the Presidency announced on Wednesday. “Now is the time to translate all the commitments made since the 1990s into concrete action. It is the frank, sincere, and serious implementation of all these commitments that will finally bring us peace and comprehensive, inclusive, and lasting stability,” said Mr. Huang Xia. The various peace processes underway on the security crisis in eastern DRC were on the agenda of this meeting, according to the Presidency. “I listened to the President to hear his assessment of the current situation and the peace efforts being made by Africa, the United States, and Qatar,” he said.
“What we hope is that African and external actors will work hand in hand to achieve greater synergy in order to end this crisis in eastern DRC and the region, since the resurgence of the M23 in November 2021,” he continued. To this end, he reassured that the United Nations supports the countries in the region in order to bring the crisis to an end. “The United Nations, through various means, fully accompanies and supports the countries in the region, all these peace efforts, whether African or external. The goal is to bring this crisis to a swift end,” said Huang Xia. Finally, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy congratulated the Congolese Head of State on the success of the 9th Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) held in Kinshasa.
