Kinshasa, August 4th, 2025 (CPA).– An emergency response project to  the Mpox (monkeypox) epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was signed on Monday during a ceremony presided over by the Minister  in charge of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare at the governor’s office in Kinshasa. »It is with a strong sense of duty that I take the floor during this ceremony dedicated to the signing of the emergency response plan to the Mpox epidemic in DRC, implemented thanks to the enlightened support of the Government of Japan and the assistance of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), » has said Dr Roger Samuel Kamba, Minister in charge of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare.

For the Minister in charge of Public Health, this strong commitment marks a new stage in our coordinated response to the Mpox epidemic. Has said Mr Samuel Roger Kamba, Minister in charge of Public Health. « It aims, in particular, to provide care for 2,000 confirmed cases, vaccinate up to 250,000 contacts, treat more than 3,700 children suffering from acute malnutrition, strengthen health infrastructure in 12 health zones, and train more than 3,500 community actors on prevention and combating stigmatisation, » he has indicated.

The Dr Kamba has argued that this project is also part of a sustainable health approach, focused on community resilience, human capital capacity building, and improving logistics and decision-making chains in at-risk areas. ‘This project stands out for its integrated and multidimensional ambition to promote sustainable and resilient health,’ he has added. The minister also praised the loyalty of the partnership between DRC and Japan, recalling that this friendly country has been supporting the Congolese people for decades, both in emergency situations and in structural efforts, particularly through human resources training and logistical support for the health system. The signed project was proposed by the Japanese government and implemented with the support of UNICEF in coordination with the Congolese government.
