Kinshasa, October 30th, 2025 (CPA).– Sustainable biodiversity management was advocated to ensure a real balance between climate research, action and governance at the 5th edition of the Youth Climate Forum (Fodjec), held on Thursday in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘We are young civil society actors. We face the challenges of climate change and biodiversity protection. There can be no real balance between climate research, climate action and climate governance if biodiversity is not managed sustainably,’ said Syntris Mukobo, representative of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). ‘That is why we must commit to implementing the key documents already developed on these issues.
These documents contain everything we need: the knowledge, priorities and strategies necessary for biodiversity conservation. We don’t have to reinvent anything,’ she added. She called for ownership of the actions proposed in these documents, which will be implemented over the next five years, in order to define civil society’s contribution to environmental protection. She encouraged everyone to make full use of these resources and to work closely with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Forests and the Ministry of Social Affairs, while emphasizing that technical and financial partners (TFPs) are ready to support these initiatives, provided that stakeholders align their efforts with the guidelines and priorities set out in these documents.
She stated that all TFPs will respect and follow the guidelines of the national biodiversity policy and its implementation framework. « Let us therefore act with determination to protect our wealth, our natural heritage, for ourselves and for future generations. Only then can we truly become a solution country: a country that has been able to preserve, enhance and build its environmental future through these collective efforts, » she concluded. This activity was organized by the Youth Movement for the Environment and Sustainable Development (Dyjedd) under the theme: ‘Youth, climate, biodiversity and green entrepreneurship’.
