Table tennis: DRC qualifies for the African Championships scheduled for October in Morocco

Kinshasa, August 16th, 2026 (CPA). – The president of the Table Tennis Federation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FTTC) has announced to CPA on Sunday that the women’s players of DRC national team has qualified for the African Nations Table Tennis Championships, scheduled for October in Agadir, Morocco, following their two medal wins on Saturday against Congo-Brazzaville.

“In the team final, DRC’s table tennis players have secured their qualification for the African Table Tennis Nations Championship, which will be hosted by Morocco in Agadir. This is thanks to two medals – one gold and one silver – won during the team events at the 24th Central African Table Tennis Championships, held from August 14th to 16th, 2026, at the Tata Raphael Stadium sports hall in Kinshasa,” has declared Didier Ngoma, president of the FTTC. Expressing his satisfaction, the head of the national table tennis governing body has properly specified each of these medals in detail. “On home soil, both DRC’s women’s and men’s teams have finished with the title of Central African champions (in the women’s event) and a second-place position in the men’s event, enabling both teams to secure their qualification.”

In the women’s competition, DRC has clinched the gold medal ahead of the Republic of the Congo, whilst in the men’s event, the Leopards have finished in second place, behind Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions, thereby securing the silver medal, despite having to make do with limited resources during their preparations. “Despite the difficult training conditions, the athletes have given their very best. They have fought right to the end, putting their difficulties behind them,” has enthused Didier Ngoma, president of the Congo Table Tennis Federation (FTTC). CPA/
