Technological change: the impact of artificial intelligence at the centre of a conference in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, July 13th, 2025 (CPA).- The analysis of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the journalism in a global context marked by profound technological change has been the focus of a conference organised on Saturday in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), by the Pan-African Journalists Network (RPJ), DRC section.

‘Today, it is clearly stated that in this global context of rapid technological change, DRC cannot afford to approach the issue of artificial intelligence in the same way. Especially since AI is transforming the way information is produced, disseminated and consumed, including in our own newsrooms,’ has declared Bibiche Muzeke, president of the PANJ/DRC. She has also pointed out that while the technological revolution is generating enthusiasm, it is also leading to abuses. « Alongside the advantages, there are a number of disadvantages. Listeners of certain peripheral radio stations broadcasting in Kinshasa have recently complained about misinformation deliberately spread by malicious individuals who have posed as journalists from these media outlets using artificial intelligence, » she has explained. Three sub-themes have been developed by two eminent professors and an internationally renowned journalist, namely: ‘Information sources and artificial intelligence: towards a transformation of authenticity and traceability verification’; ‘The press agency in the era of empowerment between increased production and the redefinition of the editorial role’; and ‘Writing, illustrating, disseminating: what reconfiguration?’

Adrien Wayi, continental president of the RPJ, has closed the conference by presenting the objectives that led to the creation of this pan-African network.  The meeting was attended by the General Director of the Congolese Press Agency (CPA), Bienvenu-Marie Bakumanya, as well as several other personalities from the world of media and communication.
