Kinshasa, May 20th, 2025 (CPA) – The application of the transport master plan to reduce traffic jams in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been recommended, on Tuesday, by the Minister Delegate in charge of urban policy during an audience granted to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).
« The government had already drawn up a master plan for transport in the city of Kinshasa with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). With the situation of monstrous traffic jams becoming a thorny problem, it is urgent to implement this transport master plan in order to find solutions to this recurring headache », has declared Didier Tenge, Minister Delegate in charge of urban planning and housing, responsible for urban policy.
Speaking on the same subject, Okitsu Keiichi, head of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) delegation, has said: ‘We want to see with our partners what exists and what doesn’t, what works and what doesn’t, and consider the possibility of implementing this transport master plan to improve traffic flow and mobility in the city of Kinshasa, without forgetting the other provinces of DRC in their development projects in all areas’. It is at the invitation of the minister in charge of urban policy and delegate for urban planning and housing that the representatives of this Japanese agency went to discuss possible solutions to the problems of traffic jams in the city of Kinshasa. A master plan aimed at resolving this issue had already been drawn up with Jica’s support. CPA/
