The intensification of parliamentary control over provincial ministers under consideration in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, April 2nd, 2026 (CPA).- The intensification of parliamentary control of provincial ministers in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has been proposed on Thursday by a provincial deputy in order to ‘effectively’ support the city authorities in the implementation of public policies, parliamentary sources revealed on Thursday. “Kinshasa’s provincial deputies must step up parliamentary oversight of ministers. Several governors are facing major difficulties in carrying out their duties, particularly regarding the selection of and collaboration with certain provincial ministers who are supposed to support them effectively in the implementation of public policies,” has declared Ronald Kisamba, a provincial deputy elected from the Bumbu constituency. “When they fail in their responsibilities or hinder the proper functioning of institutions, we have a duty to react. We will not hesitate to use our powers to sanction them, bring them back into line and steer them towards more effective management, focused on the real needs of the population,” he has added. The Bumbu deputy has also pointed out that the public expects concrete results, particularly in the areas of health, infrastructure, urban mobility and transport, where “progress is slow to materialise”. He has also noted that citizens are awaiting the completion of rehabilitation works, improvements to roads, as well as sustainable solutions for street lighting, access to electricity and drinking water.

“If they fail to meet these legitimate expectations, they will be failing in their duty and will not be effectively supporting the Head of State’s vision, which we share and which aims to improve the living conditions of the population and ensure the country’s development,” he has warned.
