The price of a kilogram of tantalum increases by 27.20% internationally

Kinshasa, January 28th, 2026 (CPA). – The kilogram of tantalum, an export product of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has experienced an increase in price of 27.20% on international markets, settling at US$368 on January 26th, 2026, compared to US$289.3 the previous week, according to foreign trade market reports consulted on Wednesday by CPA. ‘The price of a kilogram of tantalum experiences an increase on international markets during the period from January 26th to 31st, 2026, trading at US$368 compared to US$289.3 the previous week, representing a 27.20% increase per kilogram,’ it is read. However, it should be noted that the rise, fall and stability of prices for marketable mining, agricultural and forestry products are a result of supply and demand on international markets, as well as the supply chain. These variations have a direct impact on the Congolese economy, which is heavily dependent on raw material exports, particularly in the mining sector. However, mining statistics have revealed that tantalum resources are spread across several countries, including Australia, Brazil, China, Canada and several African countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda. The large majority of tantalum, estimated at between 70 and 80% of the world’s production, comes from DRC. DRC leads the way with 43%, followed by Rwanda (22%), China (6%), Brazil (6%), Australia (6%), Ethiopia (5%), Nigeria (4%), Mozambique (3%), and Russia (3%).ACP/
