Beni, October 12th, 2025 (CPA) – Work to upgrade the Kuka-Mavivi road in Kalinda, a district of the municipality of Malekera in Beni, North Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is progressing normally under the management of the Rehabilitation Project, the head of this entity said on Saturday during a site visit. « As you can see with me on this site, the work is really progressing by leaps and bounds. The young people are very courageous, motivated and well mobilized, and they are working really well. This work was launched here two weeks ago by Major General Evariste Kakule Somo, the provincial governor, and we, as local leaders, were instructed to follow up, » said Antoine Kasereka, deputy chief of the Kalinda neighborhood in the municipality of Malekera in Beni. « You know, we have always seen organizations working here, but you can see that the workers are left to their own devices on the ground, but Star-Est seems to be making a difference. They are regularly punctual and constantly on site from morning to night, with their various authorities coming to inspect the work. This is an opportunity for us to thank the Head of State, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, for agreeing to start this project in our city of Beni and in our Kalinda neighborhood, which has always been a pilot for several experimental projects. Governor Evariste Kakule Somo and Mr Jean Claude Kasomo, provincial director of Star-Est, who pleaded in favor of Beni, » he added.
This work, which was launched in North Kivu province by the provincial governor, employs 57.3% women and 43.7% men for the city, and 50% women and 50% men for the Beni territory on the Maboya-Cantine axis, a workforce that was recruited by lottery, with some participation from young people who agreed to lay down their arms at the call of the President of the Republic, explained Mr Kasomo.
