Kinshasa: Authorization to exploit yellow earth granted to an Arab company

Kinshasa, November 11th, 2025 (CPA). – The authorization to exploit yellow earth to restart construction work on the Renaissance road in Kisenso, a municipality  in the center of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was officially handed over to the Arab company on Tuesday during a ceremony presided over by the municipal authority. “I have officially handed over the authorization to exploit the yellow earth to the company “Arab Contractor”, with a view to resuming construction work on the Renaissance Road. This strategic section will connect the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) to the Kisenso community center, thereby facilitating mobility and opening up several neighborhoods,” said Godé Athswel, mayor of Kisenso. “To date, the company’s engineers are already mobilized in the field to carry out topographical surveys. This is a concrete step forward that marks the effective start of the work so eagerly awaited by the local population,” he added. It should be recalled that during an inspection visit on September 24th, the national Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works (ITPR) announced the imminent resumption of work on the Renaissance road, a project that had been interrupted for a long time. This strategic section aims to connect the municipalities of Kisenso, Matete and Lemba. The rehabilitation of the Renaissance road will improve mobility and open up several outlying districts of the capital. And, on July 22nd,  the civil society coordination group of Kisenso organized a peaceful march to demand the ‘urgent’ and ‘immediate’ resumption of work on the construction of this road, which has been suspended since 2018. It should be noted that this citizen mobilization reflected the exasperation of residents at the advanced state of disrepair of this strategic road for traffic between Kisenso, Matete and Lemba.
