Kisangani, March 30th, 2026 (CPA).– The provincial Ministry of Transport has decided to install modern and intelligent traffic lights in Kisangani, capital of Tshopo province in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the sector minister announced Monday to CPA. “Kisangani will regain its status as a metropolitan city. We will install modern and intelligent traffic lights,” announced David Bolunda, Provincial Minister of Transport and Communication Routes. “Road marking on the main arteries using heated, high-visibility paint will enable better regulation of traffic flow, thereby reducing traffic jams and head-on collisions,” he added, calling for rigor and clarity from technical partners while stressing that public expectations are high. Mr. Bolunda reminded the Traffic Police (PSR) that it is the operational arm of the traffic regulation reform that must be enforced. “To the Traffic Police, we urge not only courtesy but also exemplary firmness towards offenders once the awareness phase is completed,” he further stated. At the same time, in the territories, vertical road signs will be installed to guide users, particularly travelers, and to secure hazardous areas, schools and markets.
