Tshopo: Launching of Hydroelectric Power Plant Studies Announced to the Governor

Kisangani, February 18th, 2026 (CPA) – Hydroforce Congo announced on Wednesday the imminent launch of technical studies for two major hydroelectric projects, following a meeting with the Governor of Tshopo Province (northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo), aimed at sustainably strengthening the region’s local energy supply. “It was a matter of conducting studies for the new Tshopo 2 power plant, with a capacity of around 20 megawatts, in order to replace a unit of the National Electricity Company (SNEL), subject to its approval,” said Pierre Oudar, head of the Hydroforce Congo delegation to the Governor of Tshopo. According to him, a second large-scale regional project is already attracting investor interest, particularly in the mining and railway sectors, due to its projected energy capacity. “We also have a 100-megawatt project in Wanyarukula, which will make it possible to electrify several mining areas and support the railway,” he added.

Commenting on Governor Paulin Lendongolia’s attitude, the Hydroforce Congo representative praised the warm reception and decisive institutional support for the continuation of administrative procedures. “The Governor welcomed us very well and showed great interest in our projects. The studies for Tshopo 2 and Wanyarukula will begin shortly,” he concluded.

These initiatives are part of the national policy to diversify energy sources and stimulate economic recovery through the electrification of productive areas, particularly in Tshopo province.
