War in the Middle East: Israel calls on Lebanon to ‘work together’ against the pro-Iranian Hezbollah

Kinshasa, April 22nd, 2026 (CPA).- The Israeli Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs has called on Wednesday  Beirut to deploy joint efforts with Tel Aviv to combat the pro-Iranian Lebanese movement Hezbollah, on the eve of planned negotiations between the two countries, international media have reported. “Tomorrow, the direct talks between Israel and Lebanon will restart in Washington. I issue an appeal to the Lebanese government: let us work together against the terrorist State that Hezbollah has built on your territory,” has declared Gideon Saar, the Israeli Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs.  For his part, President Joseph Aoun has affirmed that “of contacts are underway to extend the ceasefire” – which expires on Sunday – by ten days.

Lebanon will ask for a one-month extension the truce during talks scheduled for Thursday with Israel in Washington. “Lebanon will request a one-month extension of the truce, the strict adherence to the ceasefire and an end by Israel to demolition and destruction operations in the areas where it is present,” the source has indicated.  Announced last Thursday by the US president, a ceasefire came into effect in Lebanon that same evening. The Israeli army has warned on Monday the Lebanese civilians against any return to dozens of villages in southern Lebanon, claiming that Hezbollah’s activities in the area constituted a violation of the ceasefire.
