Women’s Africa Cup of Nations: Cameroon and Malawi to face off in Sunday’s final

Kinshasa, August 13th, 2026 (CPA). – The Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses and Malawi’s Scorchers are set to face off on Sunday in the final of the 16th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, in Morocco. Malawi, which is playing its first-ever final in this competition, will be looking to cap off its exceptional run with a continental title.

To do so, the Scorchers will have to defeat Cameroon, an experienced side that is also aiming to lift the prestigious trophy. This fixture represents a historic opportunity for both teams, each seeking to add its name to the roll of honour for this edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses have pulled off a remarkable feat by knocking out Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses – the host nation and tournament favourites – on penalties (0–0, 3–1) in the semi-finals, having previously beaten Nigeria’s Super Eagles 1–0 in the quarter-finals. For their part, Malawi’s Scorchers have secured their place in the final by beating Algeria’s Fennecs 3–1 in the semi-final. In the quarter-finals, they had defeated Ghana 2–1. The winner will pocket a prize of two million US dollars, one of the largest ever awarded in women’s football, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
