Workshop for analysing the functioning of public services dedicated to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable persons (Pvh-Apv)

Kinshasa, September 3rd, 2025 (CPA).- The Public services dedicated to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable persons (Pvh-Apv) in the Democratic Republic of Congo were analysed by the Minister in charge and leaders of associations for persons with disabilities during a workshop held on Wednesday in Kinshasa.

« Today we are analysing the structures that will truly meet the specific needs of persons with disabilities. There are four corresponding to the different categories of disability. We are working with Pvh to consider the functioning and organisation of these services so that what is produced and made available to them is the result of their contribution. This is also stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, » has said Irene Esambo Diata, Deputy Minister in charge of Pvh-Apv. ‘The workshop aims to involve persons with disabilities in discussions about public services designed to meet their needs,’ she has added.

During the meeting, participants made proposals concerning several public services, including a facility for manufacturing wheelchairs and equipment for disability sports; a facility for the certification and support of children living with autism; a centre for research and production of dermatological products for people with albinism; and an academy for the development of sign language and the writing of Braille. Ms Esambo has finally encouraged participants to produce rigorous work and has indicated that the conclusions of these meetings will be submitted to the Council of Ministers for adoption by the Government.
