Upcoming decoration of the musicians performing the first pan-African hit « Independence Cha-cha »

Kinshasa, June 5th, 2021 (CPA).- The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Catherine Kathungu, discussed, Thursday, with Mr. Pierre Yantula Elengesa Bobina alias “Petit Pierre”, on the decoration in gold medals of artistic merit, on June 30, of the 7 musicians who performed the first pan-African hit « Independence cha-cha ». To this end, she would like, through Mr. Pierre Yantula Elengesa Bobina, now 78 years old and the only survivor of this group, to honor, posthumously, her African Jazz musicians who participated in the sharpening of the first Congolese political leaders, during the Round Table held in Brussels in 1960. Besides Pierre Yantula Elengesa Bobina, they are notably Joseph Kabasele Tshamala alias « Grand Kallé », Victor Longomba Besange Lokuli alias « Vicky Longomba », Charles Mwamba alias « Dechaud Mongala », Nicolas Kasanda wa Mikalay said « Doctor Nico » Roger Izeidi Monkoy and Moango Armando aka « Brazzos » passed away on October 9, 2019 at the age of 86.

Let us recall that the song « Independence cha-cha » became the hymn of liberation for several countries which recently gained independence in 1960, as well as other songs, among others: « Round table », « Emonani sentiment » and Naweli boboto ”were recorded in Belgium at the“ Decca ”studio, at the Quai des Charbonnages, under the Congo label, edited by Philips editions, with the help of the Kanza brothers, Thomas and Philippe of the“ Congo ”newspaper. The crisis of legitimacy at the head of SOCODA examined at the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage In addition, the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, had exchanged, in turn, Wednesday, in her office, in the commune of Gombe, with the current president of the interim board of directors of the Congolese Society of copyright and neighboring rights (SOCODA), Jossart Nyoka Longo Mvula and the former PCA, Verckys Kiamuangana Mateta, in order to examine on the spot, the issue of the persistent tension, linked to the crisis of legitimacy at the head of this technical structure of his ministry. Mr. Verckys Kiamuangana Mateta presented to the Minister the judgment of his rehabilitation rendered by the Kinshasa / Gombe Court of Appeal canceling all the minutes of the SOCODA board of directors, relating to his pseudo-resignation by the judgment under RCA36.540, issued on May 27th, 2021. For his part, Jossart Nyoka Longo defended his interim before asking, like his antagonist, that an extraordinary general assembly be called quickly. Faced with these positions, Minister Kathungu promised to look into this situation, relying on all the relevant legal provisions in order to ensure respect for the law within SOCODA, an organization in charge of collection and the distribution of copyright in the DRC. As a reminder, the creation of SOCODA is authorized by ordinance n ° 11/022 of March 18, 2011 authorizing a cooperative society Congolese Society for Copyright and Neighboring Rights (SOCODA).
