Kinshasa, April 13th, 2021 (CPA) – The union of African shippers’ councils (UCCA) and the multimodal freight management office (OGEFREM) are organizing from April 19th to 24th in Kinshasa, an international conference focused on the implementation of the African continental free trade area (ZLECAF), indicates a statement from OGEFREM received on Monday at CPA.
According to the statement, the two-day conference will be held on the sidelines of the 12th UCCA General Assembly and its Steering Committee meeting.
These meetings, notes the source, will allow UCCA members to study the mechanisms that will contribute to the facilitation of commercial trafficking and free trade in the area as well as to decide on strategies to make their institutions work this period when the Coronavirus pandemic affects several economies across the planet.
The delegates of the General Secretariat of ZLECAF are expected at this conference, specifies the same source, including the member countries of UCCA such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angola, Burkina-Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Togo, Republic of Congo, Central African Republic (CAR), Senegal and Chad. To these countries will be added economic organizations from the African region such as the West African economic and monetary union (UEMOA), the economic and monetary community of central African States (CEMAC), the economic community of central Africa (ECCAS), the Southern African development community (SADC) as well as the common market for eastern and southern Africa (COMESA).
International financial institutions namely, the World Bank (WB) and the African Development Bank (ADB); management bodies of the North, Center and South-East transport corridors; port authorities such as KPEA, Transnet, KMA and Loanda port authority as well as independent experts will also take part in this international conference.
By hosting this meeting in Kinshasa, OGEFREM, through its council of shippers, wants to take advantage of its active diplomacy within UCCA, it is indicated. ACP /
