Signature of an electrification project for the towns of Gemena, Bumba and Isiro

Kinshasa, June 6th, 2021 (CPA).– The Minister of Water Resources and Electricity, Olivier Mwenze Mukaleng and MM Simon Hodson, Miguel Zaldnar and Marc Alberola respectively general managers of electricity companies Gridworks, Aee Powers and Eranowe, signed on Thursday in Kinshasa, an electrification project for three cities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) namely Gemena in the province of Sud-Ubangi, Bumba in the province of Mongala and Isiro in the province of Ituri, learned the ‘CPA Saturday of the Ministry of Water Resources and Electricity.

The investment cost of the project, the source indicates, is estimated at 90,000,000 (ninety million) USD.

The investment burden sharing key for the city of Gemena is 7,455 (seven thousand four hundred and fifty-five) households and 304 (three hundred and four) Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) connected with an annual production of 4.7 GWH; for the city of Bumba, 7,504 (seven thousand, five hundred and four) households and 724 (seven hundred and twenty-four) connected SMEs with an annual production of 15.5 GWH and finally for the city of Isiro, 6,228 (six thousand and two one hundred and twenty-two) households and 1,028 (one thousand and twenty-eight) connected SMEs with an annual production of 8.8 GWH of which the annual total is 5,211,387 (five million two hundred and eleven thousand, three hundred and eighty-seven) households, 2,056 (two thousand fifty-six) SMEs and an annual production of 29.0 GWH.

Minister Olivier Mwenze took the opportunity to thank all the taxpayers who contributed to the realization of the said project, citing in particular the British cooperation. « Any similar project in the DRC will be welcome, » he added.

The call for tenders for this electrification project for the benefit of these three cities was launched in September 2018, after which the three aforementioned companies won the contract. The governor of Sud-Ubangi, Jean Claude Mabengi, and the representative of the governor of the province of Mongala took part in the contract signing ceremony, it is recalled. ACP/
