Kinshasa, June 6th, 2021 (CPA).- National deputy Solange Masumbuko pleaded on Friday for the rehabilitation of the Kavumu national airport in South Kivu, during an interview with the CPA at the People’s Palace .
Solange Masumbuko called for a public-private partnership to rehabilitate this entry route for consumer goods and people in South Kivu before stressing that this airport evacuates products from South Kivu to places of consumption.
The national deputy of the Sacred Union of the Nation asked the government of the Republic headed by Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde to put into practice the main lines of the government program relating to the rehabilitation of airport infrastructure and other transport routes communication.
Air traffic at Kavumu airport resumed on Thursday at the decision of the Minister of Transport, communication routes and opening up, Chérubin Okende, after a meeting of the crisis committee set up by the Congolese government to analyze the data weather forecasts for airports and airspace in Goma in North Kivu and Bukavu in South Kivu province.
The traffic suspension intervened on May 22nd, 2021 following the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano in Goma. This airport has a length of 1200 m and is located at an altitude of 370 m. ACP/
