Kinshasa: the socio-cultural rights of residents in a neighbourhood take centre stage at a meeting

Kinshasa, October 6th, 2026 (CPA).- The socio-cultural rights of residents of the Camp Luka neighbourhood in Ngaliema, a municipality in the west of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have been the subject of a meeting held on Monday by the Minister in charge of Human Rights, according to a statement consulted on Tuesday by CPA.

“The people of Camp Luka, through Mr Samuel Mbemba, Minister in charge of Human Rights and a prominent local figure, has expressed its gratitude to the Head of State for taking their socio-cultural rights into account in relation to the measures taken to improve access to the neighbourhood. These include road construction, measures to combat erosion, and improvements to the electricity and drinking water supply,” read the note from the ministry’s communications unit. T

eddy Lwamba, General Director (DG) of the National Electricity Company (Snel), who has taken part in this meeting with the local community, has reassured the neighbourhood’s residents that their concerns regarding the connection of two of the ten distribution boxes in Camp Luka have been taken on board. He has promised a swift response, so that these substations could be connected by the end of this week.
