Kinshasa, June 10th, 2021 (CPA).- Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge left Kinshasa on Tuesday evening, for Gaborone, in Botswana, the first stage of a mission in a few countries in the space of the Community for the Development of Southern African States (SADC) to meet the highest authorities of member countries of this community.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula Apala, the Coordinator of the national monitoring mechanism of Addis Ababa framework agreement, Claude Ibalanki Ekolomba, as well as some experts and diplomats, the head of government will then visit in Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania.
The Prime Minister, it is recalled, had a working session on Tuesday with the itinerant ambassador of the Head of State, Faustin Luanga Makela, on DRC’s candidacy for the post of Executive Secretary of SADC.
According to Faustin Luanga Makela, the Prime Minister had reassured him of the support of the government of DRC, of the Head of State Felix Tshisekedi and of himself for this candidacy, given that it will be for the first time that DRC applies to this post.
For the Head of Government, there are many aspects for which DRC can claim this post from SADC. “DRC is a lung, not just for the environment. It is a lung in terms of natural resources. It is a tree, a home, from which can start the logistics of transport, industrialization of all Africa, not only central, but also southern”, he explained, adding that it is a large potential market with its Inga dam, its electricity, transport, aviation and tourism infrastructure and others. « There is a lot of potential when DRC participates in SADC », he insisted.
SADC is an African international organization which aims to promote the economic development of southern Africa. It has 16 member countries (Angola, Botswana, Union of the Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe). It is headquartered in Gaborone, Botswana.
