The situation in Goma after the volcanic eruption examined by the Ministry in charge of Regional Planning

Kinshasa, May 25th, 2021 (CPA) – The Minister of State, Minister in charge of Regional Planning, Guy Loando Mboyo, examined on Sunday, with technicians and experts from the ministry, the situation prevailing in Goma, Nord Kivu, after the volcanic eruption which caused loss of human life, material damage and the displacement of part of the population, during a meeting he held in his office.

According to Minister of State Guy Loando, an information note has been produced to be sent to Prime Minister Jean Michel Sama Lukonde for the continuation of the management of this crisis in the land-use planning sector with regard to the  » identification and development of sites to be erected which will receive the displaced persons and their respective families.

For him, the disaster in Goma rekindles the debate on the need to complete the reform process in the land-use planning sector and the issue of financing said reform.

« The process of reforming the land-use planning sector will provide the country with the tools and instruments essential for good management and distribution of the physical space of our territory. It is of great interest to the government of ‘provide its counterpart so that this process, currently under mid-term evaluation by the external financial partners, continues its normal course”, he stressed.

Minister of State Guy Loando said that in addition to the adoption and validation of the national land use planning policy (PNAT) by the government of the Republic in September 2020 and send it the preliminary draft of law to Parliament for examination and adoption, « it is important that the government provide financial support to enable the development of the national land use plan as well as methodological guides for the development of provincial and local land use plans of the territory, to guarantee a healthy and optimal management of the physical space of our national territory ”.

The promulgation of this law by the Head of State will also allow the renovation and creation of new towns which can promote the development and good governance of the country, he concluded.
