Two Chinese and two FARDC soldiers arrested for mistreatment of artisanal miners in Haut-Katanga

Kinshasa, July 24th, 2021 (CPA).– The Commander of the 22nd military region arrested and then transferred two soldiers from the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and the two Chinese to military justice, in reaction to the degrading and humiliating treatment inflicted on Congolese artisanal miners in the « COMIS » mine, located in Musonoyi, in Haut-Katanga province, FARDC spokesman Major General Léon-Richard Kasonga Cibangu said in a press release submitted Friday, to the CPA.

According to the statement, the two Chinese used two Congolese soldiers to beat up and mistreat the Congolese artisanal miners in this mine.

« The FARDC vehemently condemns the at least inadmissible and intolerable behavior displayed by two Chinese operators towards our compatriots in the Haut-Katanga province on July 20, 2021, » the statement noted, specifying that the two Chinese , prosecuted for inciting soldiers to commit acts contrary to their duties, were sent to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) before being presented to the military prosecutor.

On this occasion, the FARDC reminded the military of the real scope of their constitutional mission focused on the protection of people and their property.
