Kinshasa, March 24th, 2021 (CPA) – The national road n°1 connecting Kinshasa city and Kongo Central province is threatened by two heads of weathering in progress in Mitendi district, in Mont-Ngafula municipality, a found CPA on Wednesday at the scene.
According to Mr. Chris Munse, an inhabitant of the said neighborhood, the progression of these two heads of weathering is consecutive to the recent torrential rains which fell on Kinshasa city and which have already washed away several houses built. He added that these natural disasters cause a long line of heavy-duty trucks to park on the roadway on either side of the road, not far from a brewery company depot.
For Mr. Dieumerci Sombo, manager of the “Good Shepherd Jesus” orphanage, located a few meters from this ravine, the children interned in its structure are in danger, because the fence has already been damaged and they had to be evacuated emergency following the intrusion of rainwater.
He took the opportunity to appeal to the urban authorities so that anti-erosion works be undertaken to stem the evolution of these erosions, one of which from Mbenseke is constantly progressing towards the roadway.
In addition, the inhabitants of these two districts indicated that a Chinese company at work for a few months is struggling to control this flow of land due to a lack of rainwater pipes. ACP/Kayu
