Kinshasa, June 1st, 2026 (CPA).- Measures allowing bars to stay open late have been taken by the burgomaster of Kisenso, a municipality in central Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to enable residents to watch the 2026 World Cup matches, it is learned on Monday from an administrative source. “In the context of the World Cup, a world sporting event that brings people together, I am taking measures to allow terraces, bars and other public venues to remain open beyond their usual hours. This will enable the public to watch the matches in good conditions, even in the evening and late into the night,” has declared Gode Atswel, burgomaster of Kisenso. He has specified that this initiative aims to give everyone the chance to fully experience this international event in a spirit of conviviality and sharing. Furthermore, the municipal authority has called on the public to remain vigilant regarding calls for demonstrations from certain political groups. “Stay focused on your daily activities and on protecting your families. Go about your business as normal without getting drawn into political considerations,” he has urged. The burgomaster has reaffirmed his commitment to peace and stability, inviting the public to continue their activities calmly, to work and to preserve social cohesion. “Let us remain responsible, united and focused on the development and tranquillity of our society,” he has concluded.
