Kinshasa, November 5th, 2025 (CPA). – The Esanga neighborhood, located in Kimbanseke, a commune in eastern Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been deprived of drinking water for more than thirty (30) years since its creation, according to information obtained on Wednesday from a communal source. ‘For more than 30 years since this neighborhood was established, drinking water has been a luxury. In the 21st century, the population of the Esanga neighborhood in Kimbanseke resorts to ancient and dangerous practices to obtain this vital commodity for domestic use,’ said Zeth Makela, vice-president of the Kimbanseke Municipal Youth Council. Mr. Makela said that pipes from the water distribution company (Regideso) have never been installed in this area to serve the inhabitants, who rely on springs and wells for their domestic needs. ‘We are calling on this public company to come and install a drinking water network in our neighborhood and thus relieve the population, who travel long distances to obtain water,’ he pleaded. ‘Regideso has installed these water tanks from N’djili in the Esanga neighborhood, but unfortunately this neighborhood does not have water from Regideso, while other neighboring neighborhoods such as Revolution, Mbula, Nsumabwa and others are supplied with drinking water (…)’, said Mr. Makela. For his part, Olafa Mbamu, head of the Esanga neighborhood, invited people of good will to come to the aid of the inhabitants by financing the construction of boreholes, pending a sustainable solution from Regideso. The Esanga neighborhood, known for its strong agricultural vocation, is one of the largest neighborhoods in Kimbanseke, a commune with an area of 237.78 km². ACP/
