Kinshasa, July 15th, 2026 (CPA).- Five guidelines for tackling the challenges of water resource management in Africa have been proposed on Wednesday by the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) at the opening of the African Water Forum in N’Djamena, Chad, according to the Congolese Presidency. “These include the integration of public policies, the strengthening of governance through effective institutions, greater accountability and transparent management of water infrastructure, the preparation of technically sound and financially structured projects to attract more investment, and the financing of water infrastructure,” has indicated the presidential source. The Head of State has called on those present to stop viewing the water, agriculture, energy, health, urban planning, environment and infrastructure sectors in isolation. “Our policies must be designed at the level of river basins, regions, cities and economic systems,” he has indicated, before calling for greater mobilisation of public, private and international partner resources. Finally, the President of the Republic has proposed to make water a driver of industrialisation. “We must develop the production of pipes, pumps, meters, treatment equipment, irrigation systems and digital solutions on our continent,” he has concluded. Held under the theme ‘From Vision to Action’, this two-day continental meeting is dedicated to the mobilisation of concrete actions aimed at developing water infrastructure and improving access to water for African populations, according to the Presidency of the Republic.
