Kinshasa, December 14th, 2025 (CPA).- The population of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been urged, in a message from City Hall consulted on Sunday, to continue its professional activities freely, contrary to a call to observe a so-called dead day (a day of inactivity). “The City urges each citizen to remain calm, vigilant, and respectful of public order, while freely continuing his or her professional, commercial, educational, and social activities throughout the capital,” it is read. “The city authorities would like to remind everyone that no one has the right to manipulate or disrupt the population, inciting it to cease its daily activities, except in accordance with decisions legally taken by the authorized institutions of the Republic, in accordance with the Constitution and the laws in force,” the document has added. According to the source, “the law forces have been instructed to guarantee the safety of people and their property, as well as freedom of movement, so that everyone can go about his or her business normally, without intimidation or hindrance.” The city of Kinshasa, the governor’s office has continued, “remains committed to democratic principles, in particular freedom of expression and opinion, in strict compliance with the laws of the Republic and social peace.” Furthermore, “the entire population of Kinshasa stands in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in the east of the country, who have been severely affected by this unjust war imposed on us by Rwanda and its AFC/M23 auxiliaries,” the text from the city hall has indicated. This document was published following an unidentified call, made at the beginning of the weekend, for the observance of a so-called dead day, sit-ins, or the submission of memos to accredited diplomatic missions and Parliament.
