Bank takes legal action against an individual over non-repayment of a debt of USD 10,000

Kinshasa, August 4th, 2026 (CPA).- The commercial bank ‘First Bank’ has brought a case before the N’djili Magistrates’ Court, in the east of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on Monday against an individual for failure to repay a debt of 10,000 US dollars (USD), during a hearing.

“We have brought this case before your court to recover our debt of USD 10,000 contracted by Mr Kayembe S. in 2015. We were at the public prosecutor’s office, but no solution was found. We had also noticed that the plot of land he had mortgaged to our client is registered twice with two different registration certificates,” has declared First Bank’s lawyer. For its part, the public prosecutor’s office has requested that the court summon Mr C. Kazadi, one of the owners of the mortgaged plot.

“We are in the presence of two registration certificates bearing different names, meaning there are two owners. It so happens that one of the owners is not in the country. We respectfully request that the court summon Mr C. Kazadi to appear in person,” has said the prosecutor. Thus, the court has decided to join the two cases at the next hearing. In this case, First Bank has accused Mr Kayembe S. of taking steps to avoid repaying his bank debt by the agreed due dates.
