CAF: the women’s Africa Cup of Nations postponed to July, still to be held in Morocco

Kinshasa, March 5th, 2026 (CPA).- The 14th edition of the CAN Women’s Cup 2026, initially scheduled for March 13th to April 3rd in Morocco, has been postponed from July 25th  to August 16th, 2026, still in the Kingdom of Morocco, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced on Thursday on its official website. ‘The TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 (“WAFCON”) is the 14th edition of this tournament, bringing together the 16 best women’s football teams in Africa, members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The tournament will take place from July 25th to August 16th, 2026,’ it is read. With two weeks to go before the kick-off of the competition, suspense has hung over African sporting circles, with a lack of enthusiasm and mobilisation around the event on the one hand, and on the other, the silence of CAF in the face of multiple media appearances from South Africa calling for the competition to be organised there instead of Morocco. But finally, the postponement has been announced after the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the location remains Morocco.

The 16 teams qualified for the final phase of this AFCON have been divided into four groups since last January 15th, following the draw held at the Mohamed VI Complex in Rabat, Morocco. Below are the different groups: Group A: Morocco, Algeria, Senegal, Kenya; Group B: South Africa, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Tanzania; Group C: Nigeria, Zambia, Egypt, Malawi; Group D: Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, Cape Verde.
