Kinshasa, November 2nd, 2025 (CPA). – The climate donors have been called on Friday to share resources equitably by civil society organisations (CSOs) in the Congo Basin, following a conference organised on October 30th and 31st by Greenpeace Africa in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘We, the civil society organisations of the Congo Basin, have recommend that donors prioritise the equitable sharing of resources and end deforestation by 2030, and we reaffirm our commitment to bring the voices of local communities and indigenous peoples to national, regional and international decision-making bodies at COP30 in Brazil,’ have declared the civil society organisations in their joint statement. The CSO representatives from each country have emphasised their determination to strengthen regional capacities to amplify this voice. They have committed to ‘relentlessly’ monitoring, documenting and denouncing any investment project or sensitive decision that would contribute to massive deforestation, biodiversity loss or undermine the rights of local communities. They have also issued an urgent appeal to governments, donors, technical and financial partners, as well as regional and international institutions to put an end to illegal deforestation and the unsustainable exploitation of natural resources. ‘We call for a halt to deforestation, encouragement of conservation efforts, support for the self-determination of indigenous peoples and a fair and equitable sharing of the benefits derived from the exploitation of resources, so that the populations concerned are the first to benefit,’ the organisations have insisted. The meeting have brought together representatives of civil society organisations from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo-Brazzaville, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This conference of CSOs from the Congo Basin has been held under the theme: ‘From dialogue to action: building a united regional front for climate, forests and governance in the Congo Basin.’
