Kinshasa, November 2nd, 2025 (CPA).- Four (4) members of the same family have died in a fire that has broken out on Saturday night in the Nkafu neighbourhood in the municipality of Kadutu in Bukavu, chief town of Sud-Kivu in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, CPA has learnt from local sources.

‘The fire has broken out around midnight on Saturday night. Four members of Espoir Kadesi’s family were burned to death and two houses went up in smoke,’ has indicated Prince Birindwa, a resident of the Nkafu neighbourhood, reached by telephone from Kinshasa. These deaths bring the number of fire deaths in Bukavu to 25 in one month, according to local civil society. The last case dates back to October 26th, 2025, with 14 people killed in a fire that has broken out on Maendeleo Avenue in the Mosala neighbourhood of Kadutu municipality. According to several observers, most of these fires are due in particular to poor urban planning, fraudulent connections to the electricity network of the National Electricity Company (Snel) and the misuse of several energy sources such as solar panels and generators.
