Kinshasa, August 16th, 2026 (CPA). – The strengthening of collaboration for forest protection and sustainable development around Lomami National Park, in Maniema, in the centre of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has been discussed during a meeting between the executive secretary of an association and the site manager, according to a press release consulted on Saturday by CPA.
“The Executive Secretary of Caritas Congo Asbl, Father Edouard Makimba Milambo, has discussed with the FZS Country Director and Site Manager of Lomami National Park (PNL), Radar Nishuli, ways to strengthen collaboration in the field of forest protection and sustainable development around the park,” it is read in the press release following this meeting. According to the source, this meeting, initiated as part of a solidarity visit by Caritas, has laid the foundations for greater synergy between stakeholders in environmental conservation and community development.
The discussions have centred on the distribution of protected areas and the major challenges associated with preserving the region’s forest ecosystems. According to the report, the two authorities have also discussed the implementation of the ‘GIAP 2’ agricultural project in the Lukunda-Olangate region, a joint initiative aiming to combine food security for local communities with the conservation of biodiversity. “It is by carrying out this project through genuine collaboration, transparency and sincere dialogue between the two parties that we will be able to strengthen our cooperation in support of forest protection and the well-being of the communities living around Lomami National Park,” has declared Radar Nishuli, as quoted in the report.
With a view to strengthen the institutional dynamics, the Abbot Makimba has requested the contact details of the General Director of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN), Yves Milan Ngangay, to facilitate future sectoral exchanges, the document has indicated. The meeting between the two organisations was concluded with the official handover of the contract signed between Caritas Congo Asbl and the ICCN for agricultural activities in Lukunda. ACP/
