Kinshasa, April 28th, 2026 (CPA).- The Resolutions 2250 of the United Nations (UN) Security Council has been evoked in the context of the implementation of the “Culture of Peace” project, on the occasion of the 111th anniversary of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on Tuesday in Kinshasa. “From April 28th, 1915, to April 28th, 2026, it will be exactly 111 years to the day since the WILPF has been founded with the aim of seeking lasting peace through peace education.
In this fifth year of implementing a project on the culture of peace, this time with a focus on transformation, we will be concentrating more on the ‘Youth, Peace and Security’ agenda in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2250,” has declared Ms Lisette Mavungu, President of WILPF-DRC. “The youth is our future and we must start working on this now because they make up the largest part of the population; unfortunately, they are being used for acts of violence. We want them to be bearers of peace, not violence,” she has added. According to Ms Mavungu, in DRC, this commemoration has been marked by the presentation of the “Culture of Peace” project in DRC, for education, empowerment and the promotion of national cohesion, which aims to foster a culture of peace through the creation and establishment of peace clubs in public, private and religious schools across the four districts of the city of Kinshasa. She has called on the population, particularly young people, to take ownership of the “Culture of Peace” project with the aim of promoting lasting peace in the country. Annie Matundu, regional president of this organisation has indicated that in DRC, WILPF has been active for 19 years. She has explained that this monumental task has been achieved through advocacy efforts with the authorities to ensure that UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda is recognised as the first international framework acknowledging the role of women in the pursuit of peace.
