Kinshasa, April 28th, 2026 (CPA).- A concert by Congolese singer Heritier Watanabe is scheduled on May 1st, 2026 in Matadi, in the province of Kongo Central, in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo, to mark the Labour Day, the singer has announced on Tuesday during an interview. “It is already one big family, the Team Wata and Matadi. The first trip, if I am not mistaken, by Team Wata since its creation, was to this part of the country. So when I am in Matadi, I always feel that buzz, the sense of a positive start. Matadi has contributed a great deal to my modest career,” has declared Heritier Watanabe.
According to the singer, this show is part of an effort to bring him closer to his audience in Kongo Central, considered as one of his first artistic strongholds. “It will be a normal concert, but the difference is that we had never presented the album ‘Chemin de la gloire’ (the way of the glory) to the Matadi audience. We will take this opportunity to give it a grand presentation. ‘Magoda’ and ‘Tourbillon’ will be the icing on the cake, but why not one or two songs from the upcoming album,” he has added.
He has also highlighted the particular dimension of this musical production, marked by a strong presence of artists from Kongo Central within his band. “The gospel, because 85% of the artists in my band are from Kongo,” he has concluded. A former member of Wenge Musica Maison Mere, Heritier Watanabe is pursuing an active solo career, marked by several productions and international performances. He is notably due to perform on July 3rd, 2026, at the Zenith Paris – La Villette, one of the iconic halls of the Congolese diaspora in Europe.
