Kinshasa, September 18th, 2025 (CPA).- The Minister in charge of Mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo has arrived on Thursday in Kolwezi, Lualaba (southeast Democratic Republic of Congo), as part of efforts to strengthen dialogue with all mining industries, with the aim of identifying the major challenges hindering the sector, according to a statement consulted by CPA. «The Minister in charge of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, has arrived in Kolwezi on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, for an official mission.
This visit aims to identify and resolve the major challenges that are slowing down the positive impact of mining, such as the management of the DOT, the invasion of sites by artisanal miners, and the supervision of artisanal mining, » it is read in a press release from the Ministry in charge of Mines. According to this document, this mission is part of the Government’s desire to strengthen dialogue with all stakeholders in the mining industry.
Mr. Watum intends to hold a frank dialogue with mining operators via the Chamber of Mines, as well as with political and administrative authorities and all relevant services. The minister in charge of mines has been welcomed by the provincial authorities and accompanied by the heads of the structures under his supervision; he has presented the reasons for his visit.
Before beginning the discussions with the operators, the minister has greeted the governor of Lualaba, Fifi Masuka, confirming the importance of coordination with provincial authorities. He has then joined industry stakeholders for a constructive exchange, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promote responsible, transparent mining that benefits to the Congolese people.
