Diplomacy: President Tshisekedi emphasises on the follow-up of government reforms already underway

Kinshasa, April 12th, 2026 (CPA).- The Congolese Head of State has emphasised on the follow-up of reforms already underway in the diplomatic sector of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to the minutes of the 86th Council of Ministers, read out on Friday on the national television.

“Referring to his communication made  at the 83rd meeting of the Council of Ministers, regarding the systematic management of diplomats and diplomatic missions in the DRC, the President of the Republic has emphasised on the need to ensure regular and sustained monitoring of the reforms undertaken within our diplomatic apparatus, in order to consolidate the efficiency, the coherence and the credibility of our country’s foreign action. “He has called on the Government to pursue with constancy and determination the reforms already initiated of our diplomacy,” has declared Patrick Muyaya, Minister in charge of Communication and Media, whilst reading the document.  President Felix Tshisekedi has reminded that diplomacy is a strategic tool for projecting national sovereignty, defending the nation’s best interests, and promoting the DRC’s international influence.

“As such, it must resolutely embrace a dynamic of modernization, of professionalization and of streamlining of its operating methods in order to meet the demands of an increasingly competitive and demanding international environment. In light of the remaining challenges, which require the Government’s particular attention, the President of the Republic has instructed the Minister of State in charge of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Budget, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Civil Service, the Minister in charge of Finance, and the other relevant sectorial ministries, to ensure the effective and coordinated implementation of the reforms undertaken,” the Government spokesperson has specified. “In response to these challenges, he will, in particular, need to ensure the modernisation of the Diplomatic Academy of State Protocol, and regular monitoring of the administrative and financial situation of all our diplomatic and consular missions, etc. He must also propose any corrective measures necessary to improve their functioning, notably through the digital transformation of diplomatic management,” has, for his part, explained the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs.
