DRC: The Agency for Major Works aims to become an engineering consultancy for bankable projects (CEO)

Kinshasa, 9 April 2026 (CPA) .-The Agency for Major Works in the Democratic Republic of the Congo aims to become an engineering firm specializing in bankable projects to address the shortcomings in feasibility studies, the agency’s CEO announced on Thursday at the national infrastructure conference held in Kinshasa. “Our ambition is to become a major engineering firm, as there is a significant shortfall in this area. We have numerous lists of proposed projects, but we very often lack the technical feasibility studies. However, a well-conducted study always makes it possible to secure funding,” said Nico Nzau Nzau, Director General of the ACGT. “As our investors systematically request study documents, we have decided to specialize in producing high-quality studies,” he said.

He reaffirmed ACGT’s vision, which is to make infrastructure a driver of economic transformation, to position the DRC as a regional logistics hub, and to build transformative projects through strong partnerships. “The DRC’s development depends on robust infrastructure, designed, studied and financed in innovative ways; our ambition is to become a major engineering firm, modeled on Côte d’Ivoire’s BNETD, which is a benchmark,” said Mr. Nzau. “A well-conducted study always secures funding. It alone accounts for 30% of a project’s success. All that remains is to mobilize the remaining 70%. It is in this sense that the Minister has placed the study at the heart of development,” he added.  Under the theme “ACGT at the heart of infrastructure development”, Mr. Nzau also addressed the Sino-Congolese program, specifying that this program relies on two structures for the implementation of infrastructure: the Steering Agency on the one hand, and ACGT on the other. Among the priority projects developed by the Agency are the RN1 national road (650 km), the construction of ring roads, the Kalamba-Mbuyi project, and the Manterne-Tshela-Singini project.  Regarding the RN1, he noted that the asphalting of the 850 km stretch between Mbuji-Mayi and Nguba is the missing link needed to complete the Banana corridor. The Director General of the ACGT added that this key strategic project for the national economy is accompanied by other works (ring roads) aimed at relieving congestion in Kinshasa, in line with the President of the Republic’s vision. It should be noted that this first edition of the National Conference on Infrastructure and Public Works (CN-ITP) is currently being held in Kinshasa from April 8th to 10th, 2026. ACP/
