DRC: 26 people recovered from Ebola in 48 hours

Kinshasa, July 5th, 2026 (CPA).– Twenty-six people have been declared recovered from Ebola virus disease (EVD) in 48 hours in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to the epidemiological situation report consulted on Sunday by CPA.

“Key EVD indicators have reported 213 recoveries on July 1st, whilst those for July 3rd have indicated 239 people have recovered, representing an increase of 26 people,” we can read in the report. According to this source, 1,528 confirmed cases have been reported, of which 628 are currently hospitalised. The overall case fatality rate stands at 32.2 per cent, and the contact tracing rate is 81.5 per cent.

This outbreak has affected 24 health zones in Ituri, 11 health zones in Nord-Kivu province and one health zone in Sud-Kivu. The Democratic Republic of the Congo faces regular resurgences of Ebola virus disease, particularly in its eastern part, a region characterised by complex security and humanitarian challenges. Thanks to the experience gained during previous outbreaks, notably the 2018–2020 outbreak—which was the second most severe in the country’s history—health response teams now have robust protocols in place.
