Kinshasa, August 27th, 2026 (CPA). – The Wednesday’s visit to the Genocost Memorial in Kinshasa by the First Lady of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and her Angolan counterpart has been described as an opportunity to reaffirm the fraternal ties between the two countries, according to a statement from Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi consulted on Thursday by CPA. “I have been particularly moved by the compassion shown by my sister and by her solidarity with the families and communities who have suffered. Her presence at their side also bears witness to the depth of the fraternal ties that unite the Republic of Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, two countries bound by history and by a shared aspiration for peace,” has written Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi on Facebook. In this context, the Congolese First Lady, alongside her Angolan counterpart, has reaffirmed the commitment to continue efforts towards a more united, fairer and more peaceful Africa. “Alongside my sister, I have reaffirmed our commitment to continuing to uphold this hope: that of a more united, fairer and more peaceful Africa, where the dignity of every human life remains inviolable,” she has added. This visit has taken place as part of Angolan President João Lourenço’s working visit to Kinshasa, illustrating the vitality of the fraternal and good-neighborly relations between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola, two countries linked by history and geography. Reflecting on their visit to the Genocost Memorial, the wife of the Congolese Head of State has described it as a moment of emotion and reflection. “Our visit to the Genocost Memorial has taken us back to one of the most painful chapters in our country’s history. Faced with the accounts and testimonies preserved there, we have shared a moment of emotion and reflection, in memory of our compatriots who were victims of the violence that has deeply scarred our nation,” she has emphasized.ACP/
