Kinshasa, November 17th, 2025 (CPA).- A memorandum of understanding for sustainable forest management and climate protection was signed on Saturday in Belém between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Federative Republic of Brazil, according to a statement from the Congolese Ministry in charge of the Environment consulted on Monday at the CPA.
« The agreement was signed by Professor Marie Nyange Ndabo, Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development and New Climate Economy of the DRC, and Ms Marina Silva, Brazilian Minister of the Environment. This symbolic gesture unites the world’s two largest forest countries in a common desire to manage their natural resources sustainably, with an emphasis on the social well-being of local communities and indigenous peoples, » the statement read.
« The Amazon has just set up a fund, through the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) initiative, which aims to preserve forests while working for the benefit of local communities and indigenous peoples. As the two large basins that regulate the world’s climate (the Congo and the Amazon), it was only natural to join forces to defend our interests and protect the planet, » said Marie Nyange, Minister of the DRC, quoted in the press release.
For her part, Brazilian Minister Marina Silva highlighted the key themes of this cooperation: ‘We have signed this memorandum of cooperation to address issues such as climate change, the protection of forests and biological diversity, the promotion of local action, the creation of synergies between these issues and the preservation of water resources.
