Kinshasa: 100 women trained in trades to empower them

Kinshasa, November 17th, 2025 (CPA).- One hundred young girls and women from the Paka-Djuma neighborhood in Limete, a commune in central Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), received four months of training in various trades to empower them, it was announced on Monday at the certificate award ceremony.

« After four months of training organized by the Centre for the Recovery and Support of Young People’s Full Development (CREEIJ) with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and funding from the Kingdom of Norway, 100 young women and girls obtained their certificates and empowerment kits in essential trades, namely sewing, hairdressing, beauty therapy and baking, » said Issa Okende, adolescent and youth specialist at UNFPA. ‘The aim is to support the socio-economic and health empowerment of these vulnerable, out-of-school girls living in slums,’ he added.

Issa Okende explained that the program also includes an essential component of sexual and reproductive health education, as well as an option to help beneficiaries start an income-generating activity.  ‘Thanks to their new kits, the beneficiaries are now ready to start their own businesses and build a better future,’ he concluded. The beneficiaries expressed their satisfaction, convinced that with the kits they have received, they are now able to start a new life. It should be noted that this ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Vocational Training. CPA/
