DRC: decrease of 0.34% in the price of a bag of ‘Cimko’ cement in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, August 3rd, 2025 (CPA).- A decrease of 0.34% in the price of a 32-kilogram bag of cement from the Kongo Cement Factory ‘Cimko’ in Kongo Central (south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo), has been observed on the markets of Kinshasa, with the price falling from 45,000 FC to 29,500 FC, or approximately USD 10, CPAhas noted on Sunday during a round of inspections.  « Currently, the price of a 32-kg and 50-kg bag of Cimko grey cement from Kongo Central has decreased on the markets of Kinshasa, selling for FC 29,500 and FC 30,500 respectively, compared to FC 45,000 and FC 50,000 previously, a situation due to the lifting of the strike by heavy goods vehicle transporters, » has declared Elena Mpiso, a cement seller at the Bayaka market in the municipality of Ngiri-Ngiri. According to her, during this period of heavy goods vehicle drivers’ strike, entrepreneurs and the Congolese population have experienced a difficult period, following the dramatic increase in cement prices at various points of sale in the city of Kinshasa.  ‘This strike period had an impact on several sectors in the city of Kinshasa, particularly construction and the fresh produce trade, leading to a slowdown in economic activity,’ she has explained.

Ms Mpiso has emphasised that since last June, the lifting of the strike by trailer truck drivers, which has lasted several weeks, has enabled a regular supply of cement, leading to a drop in prices.  CPA/Manso
