DRC Football: Memorandum sent to Fecofa calling for the organisation of elections

Kinshasa, September 4th, 2025 (CPA).- A memorandum from football stakeholders in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) calling for the immediate organisation of elections at the Congolese Football Association (Fecofa) has been addressed on Thursday at the Tata Raphael stadium in Kinshasa, the country’s capital, during a brainstorming meeting. ‘(…) Demand for the immediate organisation of elections for the national leagues and Fecofa before the start of the championships,’ it is read. The second point of this document, signed by all members of the Association of Football Leaders of DRC (ADFCO), has asked the CAF to consider the participation of Congolese clubs in its 2025-2026 interclub competitions. According to the president of ADFCO, in view of the opinions of all parties, the joint minutes, signed by all and binding on all, serve as a basis for future steps to be taken to resolve the confusing situation of football in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Because, he has insisted, this unhealthy climate, which is in no way the fault of those involved in national football, except for those at Fecofa, is a disgrace to the country. Therefore, in order not to be tacitly complicit in the decline of national football, we have decided to raise this cry of distress, he has added, in order to save what we can. To achieve this, one of the speakers, whose idea has been supported by others, has suggested that all the future steps to be taken to resume activities depend on the organisation of elections at Fecofa and the national leagues. Some, in their deliberations, have blamed the former president of Conor of Fecofa. The proponents of this argument have relied on the argument stating that: « There are no bad troops, only bad leaders appointed by those who have propelled them, without any expertise, into the management of football in the country.  « If on two occasions Dieudonne Sambi’s Conor has not been able to bring the electoral process to a successful conclusion, the fault lies with those mandated by the International Football Association (FIFA) and the African Football Confederation (CAF)”. In conclusion, according to Lambert Osango, after considering everyone’s arguments, the memorandum, which has been signed as a minutes of the meeting, will be sent to the president of Conor, Belinda Luntadila, the unfortunate successor to her predecessor in this position, with a copy sent via Fecofa to FIFA and CAF, which have no interest in seeing football in DRC go downhill.  When asked about this meeting, Desire Bonina, president of the Kinshasa Football League (Lifkin) and representative of all the other provincial leagues, who attended as an observer, has declined to comment, but has, however, stated that all the provincial leagues in the country are also preparing a similar document, to be sent one of these days to the authorities responsible for football.
