DRC-France: signing of a decisive agreement for the implementation of the Grand Inga project

Kinshasa, February 2nd, 2026 (CPA).- An agreement for the implementation of the Grand Inga hydroelectric project was signed on Monday by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and France, following the visit of the French Minister Delegate for Francophonie and International Partnerships to Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC. « The signing of this memorandum of understanding between the DRC and France is not a mere administrative formality. It is a decisive and highly symbolic step towards the realization of the Grand Inga project and more specifically its Inga 3 phase. This project, which is essentially integrative, structuring, and industrializing, is the backbone of His Excellency President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision for the emergence of our nation and the influence of the sub-region to transform our country’s energy potential into an engine of sustainable development for the DRC and the entire African continent, » said Nicole Bwatshia, Deputy Chief of Staff to President Félix Tshisekedi. « Monday, February 2nd, 2026, will be remembered as the day the World Bank’s financing for the Inga 3 development program officially came into effect.  This essential milestone confirms that the Inga 3 project is now on an irreversible trajectory. In this regard, I commend the World Bank’s unwavering commitment and warmly thank the World Bank’s Country Director, Albert Zeufack, for his resolute commitment to our cause, » she added.  According to Ms. Nicole Bwatshia, the signed protocol is based on a complementary duality, which is “Preparing the country for the project, and the project for the country.”
